Why was this Playful CougarLife Commercial Banned?

By on June 12, 2013

A new CougarLife.com commercial that has been running nationwide in the U.S. has been banned from Canadian airwaves.

The Television Bureau of Canada has banned the commercial saying it’s too violent for TV!  If you have difficulty spotting the “violence”, you’re not alone.

The star of the commercial, adult film actress Julia Ann, says, “I have seen censorship a number of times in my career and I can tell you without a doubt that there is something going on here over and above what is being articulated. I wouldn’t be surprised if the real reason the ad has been banned is because they don’t agree with the premise behind the brand, or maybe even because I’m a porn star.”

Can you spot the reason why? … Because we can’t. Have a look for yourself, view the commercial here:

It has a kind of bullying attitude..that's what I see. The first clip pushing a sandwich in a girls face..not cool and not classy at all .2nd, butting in on a girls conversation when she is with another man and bashing her..hmm not very nice.. I dont think the commercial makes a Cougar look good at all .There was no class and definitely no respect. It makes it look like us Cougars are women who think we can do what we want to who we want.

You seeing this on a woman point of view. From a guy point of view, first clip pushing a sandwich in a girls face "ah meet"…out of all the things that she could have said she complains about the meet. Not very bright, those are the kinds of girls I usually meet, annoying. Not that I would shove a sandwich to her face but wish you can just walk away on a girl like that. 2nd if I was having a conversation with a girl (who really hangs sweaters for a living or something similar) and made a comment like that I would gladly accept someone just butt in. Most girls think that because they are good looking think they DESERVE things, no one deserves anything, they are earned. Today woman want to be treated equally than why would a guy buy a girl a drink? Why not have the girl buy the man a drink.

Exactly. I'm not sure why it was banned, but it is frankly making Cougars look terrible. The fact that she's a porn actress has nothing to do with it; to be honest I had no idea she is. The target probably does though, so using her was a smart move. HOwever- the writing is terrible. "Do you want to date someone who is older, but mostly who is just awful to other girls? DO you want to date someone who is a real bi*ch? then come to cougarlife.com/?referrer=785&campaign=post">cougar life where its 10% about being older and 600000% about literally pushing everyone out of the way to get your man."

Its a bad commercial, but nobody cares about the sex. Its not even about sex.

Fuck the bullying argument, that is getting so old and overused as an excuse for peoples behavioral problems. Most people I know that got bullied excelled because of it. Educate kids on how to handle it themselves or they will be walked on the rest of their lives. Parents start being parents

Please….commercials far more violent and far more intrusive have been shown on Canadian TV. This is more about sex…namely, the Canadian officials too chicken to say that Julia Ann as an older mature and unabashedly sexual woman seeking younger men is a threat to them.

I think its about the fact that she is a porn star and a hardcore one at that. like many things on tv now adays point toward sex cuz it sells, but airing a pornstar in a commercial on public tv might be going far in the sence that it can cause young people, youth of america to turn to internet porn and lead to more abortions and youth/teen pregnancies, and many other problems that are the basis of a deteriorating country, one being hiphop and black culture

Was forwarded this link as a coworker as a joke. Guess if the tables were turned and you had an older (bigger) man physically abusing and shoving a smaller and younger man in a bar… It would be pretty clear cut agression, borderline assault.

    Double standard? Maybe

Bad taste, But not sure worthy of a ban.

PS, I am an older, bigger guy (6-4)

The commercial is perfect for its target, and I think it’s sort of funny. I mean, this is essentially about older women who want a roll in the hay with younger guys, and vice-versa … not for romantics looking for a spiritual soulmate.

I LOVE that Ad !! …I may be biased but, I've been "dating" the type of GIRL that they are making fun off and I'm tired of it ! Needy, entitled, lazy girls that don't know how to be, at least, equal with a man and now I want a real woman {cougar} as a friend/date/partner/mate to do things besides making sure to be at every party and every place, not… "Where they are, With Who they are with.." and enjoying life not multi-tasking the hell outta 24 hours ! …just my opinion

First I would like to say that this commercial is very offensive to young women. Not ALL young women are brainless, shallow, and immature. Age is but a number. I’ve seen 50 year olds acting like 16 year olds and 25 year olds acting like….well you get the picture. What infuriates me is that this just makes it seem like older women are more desirable which isn’t always the case. Furthermore, that comment about folding sweaters for a living? First of all, retail is a job done mostly by college students because it is the only field of work that fits the busy class schedules of students. I did it during my college years but that’s not my career path at all and I no longer work in retail. And the way she said it, as if folding sweaters was so….beneath her….which is funny because her job requires her to be beneath, as well as on top. “How about I buy you one?” Remember cougars are great assets. Because they need to prove that their independence is sexy they’ll buy young guys pretty much anything. But what they can’t buy is natural youth because once everything goes further south and the excitement is gone no amount of plastic surgery or Botox will get him looking your way again. He’ll go right back to the sexy young girl with the tits that kiss the sky and an ass firm enough to sit on. I really think this company is very offensive.
